Magpie rhymes

img_0020

While I was walking the dog today I found myself – thanks to the many magpies who live in the woods we were tramping through – thinking about magpie rhymes. More specifically, I found myself thinking this one:

One for a death, Two for a life,

Three for a husband, Four for a wife,

Five for your children, Six for your health,

Seven for whatever you consider to be wealth.

I’ve not thought of it for years and it isn’t one of the “usual” ones. Trouble is I can’t remember where I heard it/read it, or if I made it up myself!
